How Can I Purchase a Cottage at Walker’s Bend?
To be eligible to purchase one of the five cottages, developed by CHA, interested buyers must submit a Eligibility Application
The deadline to submit the Eligibility Application for the Cottages at Walkers Bend is 5:00 PM, Monday May 23, 2022.
Send completed application to firstname.lastname@example.org or submit at the Covington Housing Authority (CHA) office night deposit box: 5160 Alcovy Rd, Covington GA 30014 in a sealed envelope.
- Eight (8) hours of HUD certified homebuying counselling within the past 12 months. ( A certificate must be provided).

- Pre-approval letter from a lender for a $240,000 loan.
a. The Georgia Dream Program can be utilized for the Cottages at Walker’s Bend, which gives home buyers access to down payment assistance up to$10,000.

You will receive one of the following notices from CHA by Friday May 27, 2022,

You will be notified if your application is incomplete, you will have three (3) business days to submit the missing information.
The cottages will be sold on a first come first served basis.

CHA has been a partner in the development of the neighborhood beginning in 2013 with the construction of the New Leaf Center and Apartment Complex. This CHA property is a 28 unit, 1 & 2 - bedroom apartments, including a learning center with classrooms and meeting spaces.
The Covington Housing Authority (CHA) received a Community HOME Investment program (CHIP) grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The grant will be used to underwrite a new initiative by the authority to develop quality income-based workforce housing for purchase.
December 9, 2021, the groundbreaking for the cottages was celebrated. In attendance were representatives from the partnership group, the City of Covington, Newton County Board of Commissioners, Washington St Community Center, Sustainable Newton and residents from the Walker’s Bend Neighborhood. The groundbreaking marked the next phase of the program with construction beginning and the launching of the Homebuyer Classes.
